Provenance:  Restaurant Drouant Place Gaillon Paris France, designed by Emile Jacques Ruhlmann.

Charles Drouant opened this restaurant in 1880. In its early years, artists such as Renoir, Pissarro, and Rodin frequented the establishment for its renowned cuisine. Through the years, Drouant became one of the most sophisticated and prominent dining establishments in France.

The restaurant is now the monthly meeting place of the Academie du Prix Goncourt, a society of only 10 members that since 1903 has been awarding the most influential and successful writer of the year with "Le Prix Goncourt.”

During the restaurant’s renovation in the 1920’s, “The Father of Art Deco,” Emile Jacques Ruhlmann, created the entire interior design exclusively for Drouant.

Some of the most prominent components of this design were an intricate staircase with a decorative bronze and wrought iron railing, ornamental sconces, engraved glass panels (the set that we have in our gallery), as well as ceiling and floor mosaics.

Nowadays, at Drouant, The staircase and some parts of glass panels are still designing the stairway but these are currently under the protection of the French Government and will never be sold.
We can also see the exact same chair in the collection of The metropolitan Museum in NYC

The MET replaced the fabric on the chair in its collection with a digitally printed reproduction that convincingly evokes the colors and texture of the original.
Our chair is the only one available on market in its original condition and even probably the only original one in the world...
