LALANNE François-Xavier
François-Xavier Lalanne (1927–2008) & Daum, Nancy, France
Extremely Rare Crystal Decanter with Gilt Bronze Sheep Stopper
France, 1988
Morateur Gallery acquired the first example to appear on the market in 2018. The present decanter is the 3rd example we have handled, and notably the first originating from the 1988 lottery.
An exceptionally rare crystal decanter designed by François-Xavier Lalanne and produced by Daum in 1982.
The decanter is topped with its original gilt bronze sheep-form stopper and is accompanied by its matching crystal stand, also produced by Daum.
This model was not commercially edited for public sale. It was specially commissioned by Baron Philippe de Rothschild for the inauguration of the 1983 vintage release.
The first lottery, organized on January 22, 1983 during the annual celebration of “La Saint Vincent,” offered 20 complete decanter and stand sets to selected winners and distinguished clients.
A second lottery was held in 1988, during which 10 additional decanters and their stoppers were offered. The present example, identifiable by the form and color of the Daum label, originates from this 1988 lottery. Confirmation has been provided by Daum.
Signed “DAUM FRANCE” on the decanter.
