Important Pair of Monumental Sculptural Table Lamps, Model PM3

Impressive pair of Model PM3 sculptural table lamps, an original creation by Morateur Studio, combining bronze, brass, glass and textile in a striking architectural composition.

Standing an impressive 35 inches high, the lamps are distinguished by their tall, slender proportions. Each features a large rectangular bronze plaque measuring 13 inches high by 8 inches wide, mounted vertically within a refined brass or gold-plated metal structure. The bronze surface is deeply textured, patinated and selectively polished, producing an extraordinary mosaic-like relief composed of hundreds of irregular geometric elements.

The treatment of the bronze recalls the luxurious material vocabulary associated with Ado Chale, particularly his celebrated exploration of textured metals, fragmented surfaces and precious materials. The PM3 does not reproduce a Chale design, but rather evokes the same fascination with transforming metal into a richly tactile and almost geological surface.

Depending on the surrounding light, the relief alternates between deep shadow and brilliant golden reflections, giving the lamps a constantly changing appearance.

The composition rests upon a substantial 3/4-inch-thick Starfire glass base, whose exceptional transparency provides a sophisticated visual counterpoint to the density of the bronze. The base may alternatively be executed in thick green glass.

Large rectangular shades emphasize the vertical architecture of the lamps while maintaining remarkably elegant proportions. The size, shape and material of the shades can be customized according to the requirements of a particular interior.

More than conventional lighting, the PM3 lamps were conceived as functional sculptures. Their monumental scale and richly worked surfaces allow them to command an interior whether illuminated or unlit, making them particularly suited to sophisticated contemporary spaces alongside important 20th- and 21st-century design.
