LALANNE Claude

Claude LALANNE (1924–2019)

Rare bronze vase-sculpture in the form of a fan, model “Éventail”.
This piece is one of only four known prototypes produced at the foundry when Claude Lalanne initiated the Artcurial edition of the Éventail model.

Signed Cl. Lalanne on the lower left.

Provenance:
Private collection, France — Mass Foundry, France.

This rare vase éventail in patinated bronze is an exceptional prototype created for the atelier that produced the works of Claude Lalanne, one of the most celebrated sculptors and designers of the 20th century.

Shaped as a radiating fan, the piece displays a striking interplay of sharp vertical folds and organic movement, characteristic of Lalanne’s poetic reinterpretation of nature’s forms. The refined relief pattern creates a dynamic rhythm of light and shadow across the surface, enhancing the object’s sculptural presence while preserving a sense of delicate elegance.

Prototypes from the foundry occupy a special place in the creative process of  "Les Lalanne" : they served as test models for proportions, surface textures, and casting quality. Unlike numbered editions, these early trials are unique witnesses to the evolution of a design and are rarely released outside the artist’s circle or the foundry.

The vase is both a functional object and a sculptural piece, reflecting Claude Lalanne’s ability to merge fine art and decorative arts with effortless harmony. Its compact yet powerful silhouette makes it suitable for display on a console, mantel, or within a curated collection of 20th-century design.

She worked both individually and as part of the acclaimed duo "Les Lalanne" with her husband, François-Xavier Lalanne.
